Shameless Promotion

Our church will have its annual roast beef dinner Saturday night. Look at all the food you get for $9! I am off work today because I am the chairperson of the dinner this year so its up to me to make sure everything gets done. I'll be running my butt off getting lots of groceries, picking up rolls from the Kalona Bakery, picking up 175 pounds of roast beef from Bud's Meat Market in Riversideand setting up tables and chairs. I'll be making a couple raison creme pies too. Someone from our church makes homemade angel food cake for the bake sale so I always try to nab one of those.

Dog Gone Cows

We have a cow pasture at the end of our fenced in yard. Sometimes the cows just stand and stare at us like this.

Elsa plays this game with the cows in the pasture beyond our property. Sometimes she can get the cows to run away but this time they held their ground. She gets so excited that she runs around in circles like a maniac.

Twinkle Toes and Seashells

Laina's sandles that she will wear with her flower girl dress this summer. Probably minus the purple toes!
Seashells brought back from Puerto Rico for Laina from Sarah and Erik.

(Pre) School Days!

Bridget gave Laina a Tinkerbell notebook with uppercase and lowercase letters on the pages. She helped Laina find pictures of words that started with the letters and glued the pictures under the letter and wrote the word. Here is Laina practicing with her new notebook.

Junior Achievement

I volunteered to teach a Junior Achievement series in my daughters first grade class at Grant Wood. I have two more classes to teach. The class I just taught was about the difference between needs and wants and about the different types of jobs you can have (to pay for your needs and wants). The kids all laughed hysterically when I slipped up and called "Miss Kirsch" Bridget. When asked if they had any questions one child asked how old I was and after I answered he said I was older than his grandma, who is a year younger than I am! Another asked when my birthday is and one asked if I know how to swim. One child raised her hand and informed me that Barak Obama is the President.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Laina was very proud of her ponytail. Laina's mom used to call ponytails "tonypails".
She got "Squeeze Me" PJ's and books from Aunt Bridget.
Her Easter basket from Grandpa and Grandma consisted mostly of spring and summer clothes. Also Elsa had to get her butt in the picture.

Who is Silvermist?

Laina got a Silvermist outfit from the Easter Bunny. For those of you who don't know, Silvermist is Tinkerbells friend. And also this is not a costume, says Laina. It is a real outfit. If you see a little girl at the grocery story with wings on it is probably Laina.

Heart Attack

Laina found a gallon baggie of old conversation hearts that I used for decoration a couple years ago around Valentines Day. She really wanted to play with them and promised not to eat them because they are "old and gross". She got some tupperware out and we played counting and sorting games with them for quite a while. She was quite intrigued with the phrases printed on them and especially got a big laugh from one that said "cool guy". Cool Guy??? Why it say cool guy grandma? I told her because it was green and she seemed to accept that. Ahhh--its fun to play with a 3 year old!
Elsa was not at all happy about the game and it took all of her will power not to eat the candy.

Meatball Mania

Barry made a whole mess of meatballs on Saturday. We ate some--he froze some. Did you know a good sauce for meatballs is equal parts of grape jelly and chili sauce? Try it!

Terri, Tom and Laina have an accepted offer on this house. Congrats!
