One year ago today.

Trash Ladies

As soon as Laina got home from school today she said she wanted to go on a walk and pick up trash! She said her teacher said we need to take care of the earth. So off we went with a small trash bag and she was very excited when she found garbage to put in our bag. She even crawled under some bleachers to fetch a water bottle.

We took Lola with us on our hunt and Laina did a great job of handling her. Laina also said that if we don't pick up the trash it can end up in her small town pond or the Mississippi River or the Mississippi Creek?!? I remember asking my kids what they learned in school and most days the response was 'nothing'. When I asked Laina the same questions she said "Of course I learned something-thats why its school"! I realize these pictures aren't the greatest but they are my first attempt at transferring pictures from my phone:)

Baby Cakes

A few weeks ago for our Sunday family dinner Bridget said she would bring dessert. She said it took her a long time to make it and nobody could see it because she was going to unveil it. Hmmm very mysterious. Bridget doesn't usually make desserts. She usually makes salad.

It took us all a few seconds to realize that Bridget and Jeremy were telling us they're going to be parents! And we're going to be grandparents for the fourth time! Hurray.

Laina wanted to lick all the extra frosting off of the baby.

And give the baby a bath. Terri said Laina was so excited after she got home they they couldn't get her settled down for bed. I know how she feels! Can't wait till November!

To Shoe or Not to Shoe--that is the question

Is it rude to ask people to take their shoes off in your house? I'm nervous because we are soon having about 15 people over for dinner (not family) and I don't want to be rude or obnoxious but I also don't want everyones shoes on our new carpet. I once tried setting a couple pairs of "dummy" shoes on the landing in hopes that guests would follow suit but it didn't really work. I think the sign below is adorable but I don't want to make it. Hmmmm. What to do.

Dance Recital: A Bug's Life

Laina's never really very co-operative or happy after her recital. I think after spending hours getting ready, waiting back stage, and then performing in front of hundreds of people she has about had it.

After she got in to some comfortable clothes, took all the bobby pins out of her hair and ate some Dippin' Dots she was in a better mood--which was right after this picture.
